What to do during your stay?
There are many fun and exciting things to do in Cambria, so here’s a small list of suggested activities!
1. Hearst Castle
Just 6 miles to the North of Cambria you can find this beautiful castle. Hearst Castle is a beautifully designed, with magnificent views and many many things to explore. As described by the website itself, it’s a “Museum Like No Other.” If you’re planning on visiting the castle during your stay it’s advisable to get your tour booked ahead of time.
2. Moonstone Beach
Moonstone beach is a beautiful beach named for the small gemstones you can see along the shoreline that glitter in the sunlight. You can also take a nice walk along the boardwalk that follows the shore.
3. Historic Downtown Cambria
Looking for a place to take a stroll? Downtown Cambria is your place. It’s full of antique shops, restaurants, and if you’re looking to get out further, there is even a bike rental shop not too far away.
4. Fiscalini Ranch Preserve
With easy access from the town centre there is the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve. It is 430 acres of wilderness full of meadows and hillsides for you to explore. Through the preserve is also the Bluffs Trail which runs along the coastline, providing stunning views of the California coast.
5. Elephant Seal Beach
If you end up visiting Hearst Castle you can also travel up a few more miles North and see the Elephant Seal Beach. If you visit during breeding season you will be able to see these seals covering almost every inch of the shoreline, which is quite a sight to behold.
6. Piedras Blancas Light Station
If you want to visit another historic location, take a look at Piedras Blancas Light Station. The lighthouse on this spot has been there since 1875, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. If you want a tour, I recommend to visit their website for the times that they are available.
7. Nitt Witt Ridge
If you’re looking for something a little more profound, visit Nitt Witt Ridge. A house built by one man with whatever he could find. Some of the more common building materials are: beer cans, abalone shells, concrete, washer drums, car rims, tile, car parts, and old stoves. Tours are available through appointment for a suggested donation of $10 for a 40 minute tour.
8. Shamel Park
If you are looking for something closer to home, visit Shamel Community Park. Which is located directly across from the property.
All of these places are just suggestions and are in no particular order, so feel free to explore on your own, and enjoy your visit!
